WASHINGTON, D.C./KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FL – With the Artemis II crew working through Day 8 (April 8) of their historic Moon mission and send stunning imagery from their lunar flyby on Day 6 Monday. April 6, I was interviewed live on FOX 35 Orlando about the mission and my thoughts thus far.
The interview took place while I was driving north from the Florida Space Coast and stopped along I-95 just south of Washington, D.C, along the way to the New York City area where I’ll be presenting an invited talk about Artemis II at the NEAF Astro/Space convention at Rockland Community College, Suffern, NY on April 11/12.

The 4-person international crew from the US and Canada ventured farther into space than any human before as they completed a lunar flyby and slingshot around the far side of the Moon culminating Monday evening, April 6, with closest approach to the Moon at 7:02 p.m. ET while hurtling onwards to begin the journey back home to Earth.

They also observed a total solar eclipse starting around 8:35 p.m. ET lasting for nearly 54 minutes for the first time from space

The crew of Artemis II are now on their way back to the Moon! – continuing an exciting history making voyage that makes them the first humans to leave our home planet Earth since NASA’s Apollo 17 moon landing mission in Dec. 1972
The approximately 10-day slingshot mission began with liftoff on April 1 atop NASA’s SLS mega moon rocket propelling them of on a trajectory around the Moon and back for the Artemis II crew comprising NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

Their voyage to the Moon was approved by NASA after the Orion spacecraft checked out perfectly after 1 full day in Earth orbit clearing the way for Mission Control in Houston to gave the go ahead for the TLI or Trans Lunar injection burn at 7:49 p.m. ET the evening of April 2 – which was successfully completed.
